  1. Any thoughts/future post on the sorry state of the Dunk contest? I mean, we’ve been here before and it’s bounced back but wow, this year was just SAD! And I’m a die-hard fan who absolutely loves All-Star Saturday but those guys were so uninspired (Shannon Brown) and cynical/depressed (Gerald Wallace). What do you think should be/can be done differently? DeMar DeRozan was the only guy who at least attempted to bring something!

  2. It was nixed in the late 90s and they brought it back specifically for Vince (who SMASHED IT and it stuck around since with some highlights, J-rich comes to mind, Nate Robinson/Dwight Howard, etc.) I think it might just need star power and a little passion. For instance, the 3-point shooting contest, Paul Pierce, who I despise as a player but really was the only star in the contest, showed me something about competitive nature and how much more All-Star Saturday is fun to watch when someone truly cares. He wanted the 3-point contest bad and we he went out (growling, yelling and all) and won it. I enjoyed that. Now if we can start getting these players to care more, things would be different. The kid in me hates admitting it’s probably time to say bye to the dunk contest but I think the root of it all and the question to ponder is simple: What else can anyone possibly do to amaze us on the court? Until someone, ala Vince Carter, answers that question, all might be lost.
