I was watching the Wizards-Bucks game in Milwaukee last night when I noticed something just felt different about the Bradley Center. There’s something in the air there. The crowd sounds different, almost like a college game. The players on both sides even seem to play with a higher level of intensity in the Bradley Center. (Washington’s Caron Butler looked fantastic, hitting a series of big shots. He and Jamison finished with a double-double. The Wizards even played some defense). Then it occurred to me why:
I was thinking the exact same thing as Brandon Jennings: it feels like you’re watching a game in Europe. I’m practically waiting for a shot of a fan smoking a cigarette.
The highest Milwaukee has finished in attendance since 2003-2004 is 14. Since then they’ve hovered in the 20s. Right now they’re at 18. I’ll be interested to see what, if any, impact Squad 6 has on overall attendance, and whether Bogut keeps paying for season tickets next year. I sure hope so. As it is, the NBA game experience is too damn passive. As fans we’re supposed to sit and be entertained for 2.5 hours. Teams pay for mascots, flying acrobats, cheerleaders with bazookas, all sorts of things just to entertain us when what we really need is a Squad 6.
